Meaning: This is not about defeating Satan (personally) but what Satan stands for).. Jesus did not just save man but the fallen angels as well. As God said, because of his saving work, They are evil no more.

God uses the phrase I wiped him out, him meaning the Satan inside all of them.

I did not hurt them, I saved them means that when God speaks of Mother Mary stepping on Satan’s head or horns or how he defeated evil, it is an act of love (mercy) and not revenge . God added this phrase as we often misconstrue Satan’s head being crushed (whether it is interpreted as Mother Mary, Jesus or both of them doing so) as a punishing or a vengeful act.
